A friend just emailed me and asked me whether I’d seen the new trailer for Watchmen, the much anticipated move version of arguably the greatest graphic novel ever. I hadn’t, but I have now. And I just can’t decide whether the film is going to be amazing, or awful – I’m pretty sure that it will be one or the other. To be honest though, considering the luck Alan Moore (Watchmen’s author) has had with his other books that have been filmed (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen anyone?) I don’t hold out much hope.
That said, I still can’t wait to see it, and can’t believe that they can release such a complete trailer when it’s not out for nearly a year. One thing I do know is that, if I can, I’ll be going to see it at the IMAX if it shows there when it comes out: it’s where I saw 300 (which was directed by the guy who is directing Watchmen) and it turned an average film into an amazing experience. And its where I’m off to see Dark Knight tomorrow, although I’m wondering whether I’ll end up having nightmares after seeing a 20 metre tall Heath Ledger.
And on a final, rather random thought, why not check out Jimi Hendrix bashing out his version of All Along The Watchtower, the Bob Dylan song which is weaved throughout the graphic novel.
