NewMixes: My New Favourite Site

As anyone reading this will know, I’ve recently dived headfirst into the pool of gossip & chatter that is Twitter. However, no sooner had I done so than I find out that in fact I’m miles behind the times, as this year’s Twitter is in fact FriendFeed.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on one’s point of view, I simply don’t have enough time to start playing with this new service which will, apparently:

[enable me] to keep up-to-date on the web pages, photos, videos and music that [my] friends and family are sharing. It offers a unique way to discover and discuss information among friends.

Well lovely as that is, I can sort of do that already, and feel sure that this site would only suck up more of my time in pointless web watching.

Luckily not all the sites that people recommend to me are quite as pointless. New Mixes, suggested by my good friend (in the real sense of the word) Jethro allows you to download countless DJ mixes & radio shows, amongst them the unmissable weekly Gilles Peterson Worldwide show from Radio 1.

I say it’s unmissable, but since it moved to a ridiculous hour on a Wednesday night, I’ve missed nearly all of them. So I’m currently downloading them at a rate of about 2 a day, and what a pleasure it is. Rather than something which sucks up time I don’t have, this simply allows me to listen to Peterson’s unique blend of jazz, soul, hip hop, house & everything in between, as I get on with the things that actually need doing.
