Daniel Hannan Has A Short Memory

So, apparently Daniel Hannan, the Tory MEP for South East England (and therefore one of my representatives), told the PM what’s what in a display that has people from New York to Norwich proclaiming how amazing he is (I’m not going to do him the favour of putting the video on this site).

Well, perhaps unsurpisingly considering the fact that he’s a raving Thatcherite and that most of the problems we see around us is that Blair & Brown refused to reject enough Thatcherite theology, he’s full of shit. As Sunny Hundal points out:

1) Hannan claims Brown has nationalised the car industry. Erm, no it hasn’t.

2) He keeps complaining about nationalisation and the money spent to prop up the economy. So does this mean the new Conservative policy is that the government should let banks go under? Perhaps the Conservatives could let us know what their financial policy actually is? To let everyone go under?

3) He says:

In the last 12 months a 100,000 private sector jobs have been lost, and yet you’ve created 30,000 public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit.

So not only is he directly blaming Gordon Brown for the private job losses (not financial companies, mind you) but also blaming him for creating “unproductive” teaching, nursing and other public sector jobs! I’m sure my cousin will be happy to hear the Tories regard her teaching job as unproductive. And damn them for creating jobs!

4) “You cannot spend your way out of recession…” And even though Darling has said he won’t do this, the point is – you can; America did so in the 1930s.

5) He also decries the fall of the Sterling. To read a proper demolition of why the Sterling’s fall IS A GOOD THING – read this on Duncan’s Economic blog.

As for the fact that Mr Hannan, just a few short years ago, was singing the praises of Iceland and the City of London, because of how unregulated they are, well, let’s just leave that for another day.

What’s really depressing about all this, other than the fact that hundreds of thousands of people will believe Hannan, is that, just as Hundal predicted they would, the Tory press have gotten themselves into a tizzy about the fact that this wasn’t picked up by the BBC and, in a patheticaly cringing manner, the BBC have now covered it.

And before I go, and before anyone assumes that I am some sort of rabid Brown cheer-leader, I should add that I hold the Prime minister largely responsible for the mess we’re in. But not for the reasons that Hannan gives, but because he spent too much time listening to idiots like Hannan. If you really want to get angry, read Who Runs Britain? by Robert Peston, and learn exactly how twats like Hannan left the rest of us high & dry.

  1. Errr, thanks.

You did read the post right?

I’m not impressed with reactionary Little Englanders who’ve never had proper jobs and who would, had they every been given the chance, have f**ked things up even more. I’m no Brown fan-boy, but Hannah, and all his ilk, make him look like a cross between Keynes, Einstein & the Dalai Lama.

I’ve also removed the link to your shitty little website. Thanks for stopping by.
