Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name Of

Writing about Wicked Devil’s awesome Public Enemy vs DJ Zinc bootleg, 138 Noise somehow got me thinking about Killing In The Name Of by Rage Against The Machine. I may be 30-something now but I can still remember the first time I heard Killing In The Name Of when Gary Crowley played the un-censored version at about 3 o’clock in the afternoon on his old Sunday show on GLR. It was one of the most amazing musical moments of my musical youth, and Killing In The Name Of still never fails to excite.

Now, repeat after me:

Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me…

  1. …certainly one of my guilty pleasures! And considering that they also refer to themselves as Guilty Parties, it seems quite appropriate…

It’s one of my late night, ‘need to stay awake’ albums, and as I was up til 2am last night (a Friday night!) working and then up at 9am working this morning, then I surely I deserve it, don’t you think?!

    Cheers!

  2. I’m not sure why RATM would need to be a guilty pleasure – they’re almost too cool for school.

And yes, you certainly do deserve it – though I have to say I haven’t actually listened to the full album for years: I simply don’t have that much anger in me any more, as opposed to my teenage self!
